North Jersey Notes: White Knuckle Battery

White Knuckle BatteryThis Friday night, Jan. 23, my band Hostel Inc. will be playing with a pretty cool band that seems to be based out of this area and Virginia. The name of the band is White Knuckle Battery, and from the sounds on their MySpace page, myspace.com/whiteknucklebattery, these guys will be coming to Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, with their guns blazing! They’ll fit right into a line-up that seems to be riff and melody driven with a southern rock feel to it. Their songs “Natural Born Swigger” and “Break The Ritual” really showcase what this band is all about.

White Knuckle Battery was just recently formed this past August. Singer Joey Maucer, guitarist Ed Savoy, bassist Dave Fugman, and drummer Jon Ward are no strangers to the business and decided to join forces to create a straight-up, punch-you-in-the-teeth, metal band! The fearsome foursome claims that they’re “not out to reinvent the wheel but rather create metal that appeals to metal fans of all genres” by filling their songs with powerful guitar riffs, Guitar Hero-esque leads, and driving rhythms topped with a powerhouse melodic vocal. White Knuckle Battery stays true to their metal roots while recognizing influences from more contemporary artists, and that’s what it’s all about!

White Knuckle Battery is heading into the studio in mid-February with plans of having their latest opus out by the Spring of 2009. If you look at their schedule, they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. You need to catch these guys live—maybe this Friday night at Dingbatz with Hostel Inc., Black Water Rising, and Brand New Sin. If you want to check them out first, log onto myspace.com/whiteknucklebattery.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:
After opening a sold-out show for his band Trixter the day after Thanksgiving at Dexter’s in Riverdale, NJ, I’ve been getting emails from my bro and guitarist Steve Brown regarding dates for his other projects. I have to say that I thought that Soulfly’s Marc Rizzo was the hardest working guitarist in the business, but Steve Brown really gives Marc a run for his money. Steve is performing as a solo acoustic act and he also partners up with Dennis Zimmer from Big Orange Cone to do an acoustic duo act called R.A.D.—The Rockin’ Acoustic Duo, as well as still performing as Steve Brown And The Fallout—and according to his email, Steve is booked through February. Steve Brown is one busy boy and it sounds like the Trixter reunion stuff might not be done yet either! Log on to stevebrownmusic.biz to find out where Steve-O is playing next.

The boys from Apathy are still in the studio recording their as-yet-untitled debut full length CD down in Hoboken, NJ, with producer Chris Gibson, who is best known for his work with Glassjaw, Quicksand, Civ, and Agnostic Front. The CD will feature MySpace favorites “Violent Nature” and “Era Of Terror,” which the band claims is much heavier and faster since Chris got his hands on them. Apathy plans on releasing the CD in the Spring with a small promotional tour to follow. If you want to know more about Apathy and their CD and tour plans, log onto myspace.com/apathymetalgods.

And finally, yes, I am on here to self-promote once again! My band Hostel Inc. will be returning to Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, for the first time in quite awhile this Friday night, Jan. 23. Everyone’s been asking me when we were playing there again, so there you have it! The line-up for this Friday night is going to be sick, too! Also performing will be White Knuckle Battery, our bros Black Water Rising, and headlining the night is Century Media Recording Artists Brand New Sin. If you can get down to Dingbatz, get on down for a great night of rock! Who knows when you’ll see a night like this again! For more info, log onto dingbatznj.com

That’s all for now! And remember, if your band is from North Jersey and you want some exposure, send your demos and press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424. No cover bands, please!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
