North Jersey Notes: Will Killmore

I recently ran into an old friend down at Factory Studios in Clifton, NJ. His name is James, and he used to play guitar for the band Thro. You might remember Thro because I’ve written about them in the past, and I also mentioned them when a couple of the other band members went off and formed Yoko Zero. Anyway, I ran into James down at the studio, and it turns out, he’s put together a new band called Will Killmore. Out of curiosity, I had to check out James’ new band, so I logged onto myspace.com/willkillmore.

Will Killmore’s site was put together pretty nicely, but they seemed to have only one song posted, which is pretty smart because you always want to leave your fans wanting more. Then again, Will Killmore was a new band, so maybe they didn’t have more songs to post just yet. So, the song that I got to hear was a song called “Only One,” and I really liked the music a lot! “Only One” was filled with great riffs, excellent rhythms, and pounding beats. The only thing that I wasn’t crazy about was the vocals. The screaming was a little much. Actually, it was more like yelling. I wanted hear more melody and better lyrics. I’m not saying that Joe the singer sucks by any means, but on this particular song, I felt that he could’ve done more than yell. The music asks for it. The music is so freakin’ awesome that it needs great vocals. The yelling might work in certain parts, but not the whole song. I am, however, curious as to what the rest of the upcoming full-length CD sounds like.

Will Killmore is Joe on vocals, James and Chapelle on guitars, Brian on bass, and Charlie on the drums. The band had no bio on their site, so this is all that I can give you about this band for now. They do have a full-length CD on the way, and they’ve been playing the hell out of the North Jersey region. They seem to have a pretty energetic live show, and like I said, the music kicks ass! You’re going to want to see Will Killmore live! Find out more about them at myspace.com/willkillmore.

Looks like a true North Jersey legend will be returning to the stage this Fall! It turns out, Non-Fiction will be reuniting for a one night reunion show at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, on Nov. 7, so mark those calendars. For those youngsters out there, Non-Fiction was a North Jersey ‘80s band that was formed when the legendary and popular North Jersey band, Hades broke up. Non-Fiction released three full-length CDs and an EP in their four year existence. The line-up for the one night reunion will consist of all it’s original members; singer Alan Tecchio, guitarist Dan Lorenzo, bassist Kevin Bolembach, and drummer Mike Cristi, all of whom are still active on the North Jersey music scene today. If you want to learn more about Non-Fiction, and I think that you do, log onto myspace.com/nonfictionnj.

And finally, I need to let you know about a new rock club that opened in Jersey City, NJ. It’s called Automata Chino and it’s located in The Iron Monkey, which is at 99 Greene Street in Jersey City. Yes, bands! That means there is a new rock club that is open and it’s right on the outskirts of NYC. For booking info, log onto ironmonkey.com/automatachino or email booking@automatachino.com.

That’s all for now! And remember, if your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your demos and press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424. No cover bands, please!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
