North Jersey Notes: Blinded By Anger

Holy crap! I just got off of the MySpace page of Blinded By Anger and my ears are still scorching! My bass brother, Mikey “Driveby” Ferriera, has been working on this project ever since his band Trudge broke up a few years ago. I know that Mikey’s been cooped up writing with guitarists Lance Fiore and Babish for the last few years working on their style. Lance and Babish actually played with Mikey in Trudge towards the end, and these guys rip, trust me! They are like twin axe killers! Anyway, every time that I would ask Mike how the band was doing, he would respond with, “Eh, it’s going okay!” Okay? Was he kidding? This stuff is hard and it’s punch-you-in-the-teeth heavy! Singer Ryan Laurantano’s melody in the chorus of “A Moment’s Stare” really sucks you in. “The Rogue Divinity” and “From The Ledge” are two tracks that I just can’t seem to get enough of. The chorus in “From The Ledge” hasn’t left my head yet! I am just blown away at how this band has evolved, and to me, has become North Jersey’s best-kept secret!

Blinded By Anger is pretty much what was left of old local favorites Trudge and Slide Bolt. Bassist Mikey “Driveby” Ferriera joined forces with guitarists Lance Fiore and Babish to form this rifftastic assault. Later joining Blinded By Anger was the thunderous foot of Dan “Murph” Murphy on drums and the powerful Phil Anselmo-like vocal abilities of Ryan Laurantano. When I say Anselmo-like, I mean that he sounds great when he’s shouting, but sounds even better when he’s actually singing! The shouting isn’t overdone on these tracks, which I personally like a lot, but who am I?

Blinded By Anger is currently putting the finishing touches on their debut CD, The Falling Out Begins, which they hope to have out by this summer. They recorded it down at BioHazard/Suicide City‘s Billy Graziadei’s Underground Sound Studios, where Billy, himself handled the recording duties. On Blinded By Anger’s MySpace page right now are the band’s demos that were produced by Carley Coma from Candiria/Hope Kills Fear. In fact, Carley does guest vocals on the song “From The Ledge.” For more info on one of my new favorite North Jersey bands Blinded By Anger or to find out when their CD drops or to find out when they’re playing next, log onto myspace.com/blindedbyanger.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

My boys from the ever-loving jam band Echofission will be returning to this year’s Evolve 2012 Music and Yoga Festival in Augusta, NJ; that’s in Sussex County for those of you scratching your head. The event is a weekend-long festival that takes place from Sept. 4 through Sept. 6 at the New Jersey State Fairgrounds. There will be 70 bands and yoga workshops all weekend. Echofission will be playing on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. sharp. Tickets for the event are $125 for the whole weekend. For more info about this event log onto evolvefest.org. And finally, hitting the shelves this week is the debut CD from my favorite local thrashers Apathy! Their new CD, A Decade Of Violence, dropped locally this week and will be released worldwide later this summer. There’s also a nice poster to promote the CD floating around featuring a quote from yours truly. Log onto apathy-nj.com for more info on Apathy and A Decade Of Violence.

That’s all for now! And remember, if your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your demos and press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424. No cover bands please!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
