North Jersey Notes: Crawl 2 Chaos

I recently got an email from Crawl 2 Chaos drummer Pete Colvin asking me to check out his band. So, I guess that the email that I leave at the bottom of this column is actually working. Seriously, I prefer this way instead of mailed press kits any day! You should see the office in my apartment. It’s stacked with CDs from local bands that aren’t really that good! At least my girl and I will never have a shortage of coasters! Anyway, back to Crawl 2 Chaos! At first, I didn’t know what to make of them. The recordings were horrible, but as I really tuned in, the songs weren’t that bad at all. In fact, I really liked singer Lou Burno’s voice on songs like “Push,” “Welcome To Hell,” and “Who We Are.” The songs have much energy to them! The only problem that I heard was in the recording. Fatter drums, thicker bass sound, and a guitar sound that cuts like a razor would’ve made this a great listen. From what Pete said in his email, though, the band is in the studio recording some new stuff! Can’t wait to hear it!

Crawl 2 Chaos is a collaboration of seasoned musicians who are no strangers to the New Jersey music scene. Singer Lou Burno’s Pete Steele-esque vocals are distinguishable and powerful while guitarist Scott Christie’s bone-crushing guitar sound is unmatchable when it comes to killer rhythms and ripping guitar leads. Drummer Pete Colvin lays down a thunderous backbone for Crawl 2 Chaos, which is reinforced and complimented by the solid bass playing of Andy “The Maniac” Edick. As a band, Crawl 2 Chaos’ chemistry is undeniable. Soon the metal scene in New Jersey will know it as Crawl 2 Chaos plans to spread like a virus!

The members of Crawl 2 Chaos stated that they’ll play anywhere that has a crowd! How about the local Sonic? That place seems pretty crowded lately! Anyway, Crawl 2 Chaos is no stranger to headlining or opening for national acts! They’ve opened for bands like Ill Nino, Pro-Pain, Overkill, King Diamond, Biohazard, and System Of A Down, just to name a few. You can catch Crawl 2 Chaos live this Saturday night, Aug. 29, down at the Championship Bar in Trenton, NJ. From what I hear, their live show is a must see event! You can check them out at myspace.com/crawl2chaos.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

I just saw that my brother, John Mosco from Sixty Miles Down, has finally posted a brand new song called “Burned” on the band’s MySpace page, myspace.com/sixtymilesdown. The song isn’t bad at all and to me, it sounded very typical of Sixty Miles Down with their signature harmonies. Now, here’s a weird thing that I noticed, John was the only band member of Sixty Miles Down posted on the site. Is he playing band member musical chairs again? Regardless, John seems to be hard at work writing and recording trying to keep Sixty Miles Down afloat. Hopefully, he can put a solid line-up together to start playing out again soon! The longer you’re away from the scene, John, the quicker they forget who you are! Don’t wait too long! Give the new Sixty Miles Down song “Burned” a listen at myspace.com/sixtymilesdown. The song is excellent!

Speaking of brand new songs, has anyone heard the new Lowbuz song, “Problem?” Wow! They haven’t lost a step! Even if they are retired! Or are they retired? I just heard from a little bird that the song “Problem” along with another brand new Lowbuz song called “I Swear” is being featured on some DVD called Thunderstruck 8, which is a DVD about snowmobiles. I also heard that before the year is up, we might see Lowbuz officially come out of retirement and play some live shows! These guys are slowly becoming the George Foremans of the music industry! Give the new song “Problem” a listen at myspace.com/lowbuz.

And finally, I recently ran into Glenn, the guy who owns Factory Studios Carlstadt and Clifton. He told me that they recently expanded the Clifton studios, as they’ve built additional rooms, which are still available to be rented. If your band is sick of going to an hourly studio, you might want to give Factory Studios Clifton a call. The rooms are clean, spacious, and safe! All of the bands in the facility are super cool, and all look out for each other! I know from experience! Call the studio manager, Dave, today at (201) 638-6491 to see one of the rooms.

That’s all for now! And remember, if your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your demos and press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424. No cover bands, please!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
