Southern metal semi-supergroup Down (if you’re not a metalhead, you’re probably only going to recognize the name Pantera) probably wouldn’t exist if The Melvins hadn’t blazed the slow and heavy trail first, and a bill featuring the two bands is nothing short of a sludge fan’s wet dream. Both groups will be bringing their drop-tuned, menacingly slow riffs to the Nokia Theater in Times Square on Friday, Sept. 11. The show is 16-plus, tickets are $35, and doors open at 6:30 p.m. Be sure to get close enough to the stage to get a good look at Buzz Osborne’s still completely ridiculous hair.
