Patti Smith is a major influence in the musical endeavors of such artists as R.E.M. because of how she integrated her beat-poetry with music and became a political activist. Often titled the “Godmother of Punk,” Smith was recently accompanied by U2 and Bruce Springsteen on stage at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall Of Fame for the song “Because The Night.” She can’t seem to get enough of the NYC atmosphere because Dec. 29, Dec. 30, and Dec. 31 she is returning to play Bowery Ballroom for $40 the first two nights and $55 on New Year’s Eve. pattismith.net.
