North Jersey Notes: Malicious Tendencies, Pittsfield, MA

My bud Tim McMurtrie, from Murder League All Stars/M.O.D./Rhythm Trip/Full Scale Riot, recently emailed me to let me know about a band that he’s been working with through his Trip Squad Productionz Company. Yeah, the band is from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, but Tim is from Garfield, NJ, and that is North Jersey, right? Anyway, the band is called Malicious Tendencies, and they rock hard! They are looking to bring their New England brand of metal to New Jersey!

Malicious Tendencies is trying to create a new take on the crossover of their metal and hardcore sound with punishing hardcore vocals of Chris Penaherra, and the ferocious thrash riffs of guitarists Arron Sondrini and Jeff Casey. The thunder of Malicious Tendencies is created by bassist John Patterson and drummer David Burke, who round out the mighty quintet. The band thrives and lives by brotherhood and unity in music, as well as real life!

In the spring of 2009, Malicious Tendencies teamed up with Trip Squad Productionz own, Tim McMurtrie, who would produce the band’s first EP, The War Has Begun, which was recorded at Trax East in South River, NJ. The band feels that they’ve created a CD that really captures their explosive live sound. The War Has Begun is due to hit the shelves later this year. You’ll finally get to hear songs like “Love To Hate Me” and “Doin’ Time.” You can hear those songs now at myspace.com/malicioustendenciesmetal. Check them out!

North Jersey Notes Updates

Local solo artist C.C. Coletti will be teaming up with former Spin Doctors guitarist, Anthony Krizan, on Friday, May 7 at the Brook Arts Center in Bound Brook, NJ, for a tribute show called Experience Janis: A Tribute To Janis Joplin And Jimi Hendrix. The show will pay homage to the two music icons highlighting their musical works, their rise to stardom, and their tragic endings. This show is a must-see! For more on Experience Janis, or if you wish to purchase tickets, log onto myspace.com/experiencejanis.

The boys from the band Vivid Twisted recently celebrated the release of their new CD, Terror Violence Technology, with a CD release party at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. The new CD exhibits a more mature and darker Vivid Twisted than I remembered and I like it! Check out their new songs now at myspace.com/tvtwisted.

And finally, I recently went down to Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ, with Joe and Crystal Cattano of Aarius Studios to see the Cashmere, Law And Order, Xenon, and American Angel reunion show. I have to say that I was impressed. The place was more packed that I expected for a reunion of local ‘80s bands and they all sounded unbelievable. Xenon sounded amazing and hearing “Teenage Runaway” and “How Can I Miss You” from American Angel live really brought back some high school memories. Ok, now I’m dating myself! Check out American Angel at myspace.com/americanangel. Oh, and speaking of reunions, the Hades reunion is Wednesday night, April 21, at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. Don’t miss that show!

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424 where you can also let me know where you’re performing next. No cover bands, please! Also, if you haven’t checked out my podcast yet, do it now at northjerseynotes.mypodcast.com!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
