North Jersey Notes: The Dirty Stayouts, Clifton, NJ

I know that I’ve mentioned this band many times before in my Update section, but I just realized that I’ve never featured them in this column. Now that they actually have decent recordings up on their websites, it’s time to feature them. The name of the band is The Dirty Stayouts. The first time that I actually mentioned these guys my bro, Anthony Sidoti, joined the band to play bass. So anyway, I gave their new songs a listen. I love the song “Live It Up!” It’s just raw, dirty, no-frills rock ‘n’ roll at its finest. Singer Bob Bobal really holds it down vocally on “She Lies.” Those are two excellent tracks!

The Dirty Stayouts were formed in the spring of 2008 by singer and guitarist Bob Bobal and sister/drummer Jen Bobal. Bob remembered after having a very long night out, his sister, Jen, came home and he called her a “dirty stayout,” whatever that even means, but the name seemed to have stuck. Bob began writing a few songs, and he and Jen decided to test the songs by playing them around the North Jersey music circuit. After playing a few shows with a couple of different bassists, Bob decided to pull in my bro, Anthony Sidoti, whom he met when they roadied together for Universal Recording Artist Dropbox on the 2004 Godsmack World Tour. Bob knew that Ant would fit the dirty sound and attitude that he envisioned for The Dirty Stayouts. Rounding out the band is guitarist Pete Zest, singer of Another State Of Mind, who joined The Dirty Stayouts in 2009 after doing a couple of shows with the band, which adds his ripping solos and strong backing vocals.

The Dirty Stayouts have been playing all over the New York and New Jersey area from dives like Otto’s Shrunken Head in NYC to The Clash Bar in Clifton, NJ. The band’s self-proclaimed sound of Cow Punk & Dirty Rock ‘N’Roll is unmatched by any other band in New Jersey! According to Bob, “You’ll leave our shows feeling dirty and wanting more!” You can catch The Dirty Stayouts live at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ, on July 10.

North Jersey Notes Updates

The Trixter 20th Anniversary Tour comes to Asbury Park, NJ, on July 9! That’s right, kiddies! If you missed your chance at your dose of Steve Brown, PJ Farley, Pete Loran, and Marc “Gus” Scott at Mexicali Café in Teaneck, NJ, this past April, you have another chance to see them at the legendary Stone Pony before they head off to perform at the Rockin’ America Festival in Oklahoma City with Ratt and Vince Neil. If you’d like more info on the Trixter show at The Stone Pony, log on to trixterrocks.com.

The oldest guys on the music scene today, The Bangs from Union City, NJ, whom I wrote about almost two years ago, have a very cool show coming up on July 17. They will be performing at Vincent Pastore’s birthday bash at the Primetime Comedy Club in Sayreville. For those of you scratching your heads as to who Vincent Pastore is, Sopranos fans will remember him as “Big Pussy.” How can you not love that name? Anyway, for more info on this show, log on to primetimecomedyonline.com.

And finally, since I haven’t self-promoted myself in quite some time, I need to let you know that I have new project that will be making it’s live debut at The Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ, on July 30 opening for the ‘90s alt-rock band, Candlebox. What a way to debut a band, huh? Oh, the name of the band is Sik Twizted Smile and it features myself, and my Hostel Inc. cohort, Jeff Hardee, on drums, my Mean Venus brothers Adrian Freyre and Marcelo Mesa on guitars, and Gerard DiNola, formerly of Trimm, on vocals. All I can say is the music is killer, and I’m really excited about it, but you’ll have to catch it live to hear what I’m talking about! For tickets, log onto myspace.com/siktwiztedsmile.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next. No cover bands, please! Also, if you haven’t checked out my podcast yet, do it now at northjerseynotes.mypodcast.com!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
