Julian Lennon Art Gallery Opening @ Morrison Gallery Hotel

NEW YORK, NY—Julian Lennon’s first art show at Morrison Hotel Gallery located next to the old CBGB’s downtown on the Bowery drew a stellar cast of friends and family in celebration of some great art and her father John Lennon’s upcoming 70th birthday. Guests included Cynthia Lennon, Yoko Ono, brother Sean, Patti Boyd Harrison (George’s ex), photographer Timothy White who also curated the show as well as downtown luminaries’ photographer Bob Gruen, Mick Rock and writer Legs McNeil who soaked in the ambiance at the downtown shrine (and former CBGB’s gallery location) as the Dewers whiskey flowed and the spirit of Beatle John’s good vibes permeated the air.

Julian’s photographs consisted of landscapes, artistically misty and as starkly grey as the English winter and skyscapes that had a heavenly, almost ethereal quality to them. There was also a Matisse-like pointedness to some of them that evoked a change of seasons as the brisk fall air beckoned outside. His show also included rock shots of U2 onstage and in the studio that were candid and poignant. One in particular had Bono in a thoughtful pose that was almost strikingly similar to a pic just behind him of a youthful Lennon. The other shots were of the bands most recent tour onstage as Lennon captured the magic and energy of U2 in concert with the skill of a veteran lens man.

The exhibit runs thru October 7 at The Morrison Hotel Gallery Bowery at 313 Bowery (Bowery & Bleecker Street). Be sure to check out the next show at the gallery featuring Queen, Bowie, Iggy and Syd Barrett photographer Mick Rock. For more info check out morrisonhotelgallery.com.
