North Jersey Notes: The 39, Summer Jam, Atom Strange and More!

I just read an email that I received from Mario DiNizo , who plays guitar and sings for a North/Central Jersey hard rock band called The 39. Mario wrote me saying that he reads North Jersey Notes often, and was wondering if I would check his band out since they recently released their new five-song EP, We Rise. I love hearing about bands that have been out there for years that I’ve never heard about and this was one of those times. The 39 were great! I especially dug the energy and riffage in the title track. I love the song “Sleepwalking To Nowhere,” and I’m really, really enjoying “Blood In The Water.”

The mighty power trio has been together in various versions of the band for a little over 20 years. Wow, that’s a long time! In their short time together (sarcasm, get it?), the boys from The 39 have had the time to perfect their infectious sound, combining old school metal, hard rock, classic rock, hardcore and punk. Their diverse guitar riffs, high octane energy, raw power, and groovy rhythms have been inherited from their hard rock and metal forefathers ranging from Sabbath and Zeppelin to Metallica and Pantera. Making up the dynamic trio is singer and guitarist DiNizo, bassist Chris Wenzel, and drummer Brian Balogh.

Upon releasing We Rise in early March, the band hopes to spend most of the spring and summer promoting it at a venue near you. According to their website, I’m guessing that their first single is “Sleepwalking To Nowhere,” which there is a video for on the band’s ReverbNation page, reverbnation.com/the39. Okay, it’s not really a video more than just a photo of the band and the music playing on a YouTube page, but it is listed under video. Anyway, you can purchase We Rise on the band’s website, the39band.com, where, if you buy it right now, you can also get a limited edition EP release t-shirt! Get yours right now!

My boys from Atom Strange have been working their asses off fine-tuning a bunch of new songs for their upcoming CD, The Lost Cosmonauts. The disc is going in a bit of a new direction for the band because The Lost Cosmonauts is going to be a concept album based on an original story written by guitarist Alex Rude. For further developments on this concept album, log onto atomstrange.com.

And finally, I’m not sure if I said this yet, but a big congrats to Sixty Miles Down head honcho John Mosco and his wife, Cristi, on the birth of their daughter, Carleigh, who was born early last February. Also on the Sixty Miles Down front, John promises that the recording process of their new CD will resume in the next couple of months, but until then, Sixty Miles Down fans can enjoy a YouTube video of the band performing their song “All These Things” live at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
