North Jersey Notes: Xero Gravity, Scarlet Carson, Marc Rizzo and More!

Would you believe that I’ve wanted to feature this band since the summer? I saw these kids at Raceway Park’s Summer Jam, and I thought they were amazing for a young bunch of metalheads! I was mostly impressed with the bass player Jack Rose. Oh and by the way, the name of the band was Xero Gravity and they were awesome! Their median age is 14 years old, which I found absolutely amazing because of their musicianship. I went to their ReverbNation page to give their songs a listen, and I am still obsessed with this kid’s bass playing. He has a very promising future! The songs that really caught my ear were “To The Bone,” “Gone Just Like That,” and “Hellhole.”

According to their bio, the trio known as Xero Gravity met in Red Bank while performing in a music program called Rockit For Kids, where kids between the ages of eight and 16 audition and participate in a seven-week music program. Bassist/singer Jack Rose and guitarist Alex Peragine formed a project they would call Noise Pollution. As Noise Pollution, the boys were able to play at venues like The Stone Pony and the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park. At this time, drummer Steven Rago was playing in a band called Reverse Evolution. When each of their respected bands disbanded, the three friends got together to form Xero Gravity. The chemistry was there and the brotherhood ensued. The band’s extremely catchy riffs and grooving basslines are winning fans over on every level, including this writer.

These kids could have a pretty promising future if all goes to plan. I’m not really sure if they have any CDs for sale, but when and if they do, they might take the hard rock and metal world by storm. To be honest, Xero Gravity write music better than some musicians my age, and the fact that they’re doing it at the age they are, I’m actually a little jealous! Keep an ear out for Xero Gravity! NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

How about my boy Santino Noir from Scarlet Carson? He recently worked on a side-project with Melissa Gorga from Real Housewives Of New Jersey on a song called “I Just Wanna.” It’s not something you would expect from Santino, the rocker. It has more of a hip-hop feel to it, and it’s not too bad. Check the song out for yourself and watch the music video on YouTube.

Speaking of music videos, I haven’t heard from the jokesters in Ape Fight for quite some time, but somehow, I came across a video for a remixed version of their song “I Will Take The Bullet.” The song and video are absolutely hilarious, and you have to see it to believe it! How are these guys not signed already? Fight the fight and take a look at the video on YouTube.

And finally, my bro Marc Rizzo from Soulfly/Cavalera Conspiracy returns home to our shores with his solo band on Dec. 22 at The Blue Room in Secaucus for a Toys For The Arch Diocese of Paterson toy drive. Also on the bill are my boys from Scars Of Envy and Timmy McMurtrie’s Murder League All-Stars. Get to the Blue Room with a wrapped toy and see this show! Marc’s not in town too often these days, so get your asses out there to see one of the hardest working guitarists in the business live. He’ll blow your head off! Don’t forget to check out Marc’s new song, “Down Side Up,” on iTunes.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
