After a stint in the now-defunct band DeYarmond Edison (along with Justin Vernon/Bon Iver), Chris Porterfield of Field Report effectively called the music scene quits but continued to write his own songs. A patient process of polishing and refining turned out the core of a self-titled debut album, released on Sept. 11. The frank beauty of the narrative lyrics and the raw instrumentation quickly won high-profile admirers and in the past year, Field Report has played with Counting Crows, Aimee Mann, and Emmylou Harris. They will be at Mercury Lounge on Nov. 8, World Café Live on Nov. 9, and Union Hall on Nov. 10.
