Date Palms: The Adjusted Sessions

With a unique and melodic sound, Date Palms are an instrumental rock band based in Oakland, California. The original duo, Gregg Kowalsky and Marielle Jakobsons, have added electric guitar, tanpura and electric bass to expand their diverse sound. The group’s third album, The Dusted Sessions, features not only elements of rock, but also Indian and jazz music, unlike the previous two records. 2010’s Of Psalms and 2011’s Honey Devash are lighter and more psychedelic than the new LP. With its spacey sound, The Dusted Sessions instead brings to mind other instrumental rock songs such as those by Pink Floyd. Date Palms will be performing on Sept. 10 at Kung Fu Necktie in Philadelphia and Sept. 11 at Union Pool in Brooklyn alongside rock band Plankton Wat.
