Against Me!: True Trans Soul Rebel In Asbury

—by , September 1, 2015

Against Me! is a well-known punk band comprised of Laura Jane Grace (lead singer), James Bowman (guitar/vocals), Atom Willard (drums), and Inge Johansson (bass). Grace started Against me! as a solo musical endeavor and later created the four-piece band as it is today. Although Against Me! has been producing albums for many years, their latest album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues, marked a change in the band’s dynamic, as it was the first album they had produced since Laura Jane Grace came out as a transitioning transgender person. The album was released in Jan. 2014 via Total Treble Studios, Grace’s own recording label. Their new album, 23 Live Sex Acts, is to be released on Sept. 4. “True Trans Soul Rebel” is one of the best tracks on this new album; its lyrics, “You should’ve been a mother, you should’ve been a wife,” are particularly poignant. Against Me! will be headlining at Red Bull Sound Select New Jersey on Sept. 4 at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. This showcase will be on the same day that Against Me! will release their new album, which promises to be just as edgy as their last. Also opening will be Cakes Da Killa and Big Eyes.
