North Jersey Notes: Joker Five Speed, Metalfier, Eye Of Anubis and more!

Dirty Pearls singer Tommy London has been presenting some pretty cool shows down in The Village at Arlene’s Grocery as of late, and on Sept. 17, Tommy brings the reunion of Joker Five Speed, one of NYC’s favorites, to Arlene’s! Also performing on the bill will be Ten Ton Mojo, Honor Among Thieves and Royal Skulls. Fans of the NYC rock scene will not want to miss this show. For more on Tommy London’s upcoming shows, visit his new Facebook page, Facebook.com/TommyLondonPresents.

Speaking of NYC bands, my bud Andrew Janda and his band Metalfier will be headlining Irving Plaza in NYC this Thursday night, Sept. 8, to celebrate the release of their new CD, Into The Unknown. Also performing this show are Eagle I and The Cringe. For more on Metalfier and their new CD, Into The Unknown, visit Facebook.com/Metalfier.

The gang from Eye Of Anubis recently premiered their brand new music video for their song “Flood of Tyrants” off of the band’s latest CD, A Selfless Act For a Worthless Cause. The song is nasty and really punches you in the gut. If you like your metal with some brutality mixed in, you will love this music video. My brother Tom McNamara, former guitarist from Beyond Visible, Blind Hate Experiment and current guitarist of the local supergroup, The Paragon Image, featuring members of Dead Fish Handshake and New Theory, has been touring for the past couple of years with the Rhode Island-based hip-hop metal group, Scare Don’t Fear, as the band’s lead guitar player. The band recently released their latest three-song EP called Trillogy. If you love stuff like Hollywood Undead, you will love Scare Don’t Fear. The songs “The Anti,” “Let Out the Beast,” and “Reckless” give you an idea of what you can expect from Scare Don’t Fear. I would actually love to see them on tour with the Undead ones. For more on Tom’s latest project, Scare Don’t Fear, visit Facebook.com/ScareDontFear.

My brother Santino Noir has been hard at work with his family back here in Jersey filming on a movie called Bully, which was written by his father Joe Campanelli and features actors Danny Trejo and Vinny “Big Pussy” Pastore. Santino is directing the film, but seems to still have time to release new music. He recently released his new song “Purpose” featuring Danny McDonough on Facebook. The sing is a hit if you ask me. The song is pretty good and a bit more poppy than the hip-hop stuff he’s been releasing. You can check “Purpose” out and track the status of the movie Bully by visiting facebook.com/OfficialSantinoNoir.

And finally, congrats to my buds George Roskos and Kurt Wübbenhorst, the owners of the popular North Jersey recording and rehearsal facility Architekt Studios in Butler. It turns out that their Butler facility is so busy that they had to open a new facility in lovely Glen Rock, NJ. They will be hosting a grand opening on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. This facility will be a music education focused shop. It sounds like there’s a new competitor to School of Rock in town. For more info on this new Architekt Studio, visit edu.architektmusic.com.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
