North Jersey Notes: Triple Addiction, Negative Sky, Raftree, and more

TRIPLE ADDICTION—Hillsborough, NJ

Mike Camp from Jersey Campfire Productions did it again! He’s introduced me to another great and young North Jersey band who called themselves Triple Addiction. I was curious after seeing some pictures with Mike and the band after a recent Tenth Street Live show in Kenilworth, NJ. I thought the band had a cool look about them, so I needed to hear what they sounded like. They reminded me of Black Stone Cherry with their hard rock rocking Southern flare on songs like “Smoke,” “Remind Me” and “Amanda.” There’s also something extremely unique about Triple Addiction: three-quarters of the band are triplets! Yes! Three brothers, born on the same day within minutes of each other, make up the majority of this band.

According to their bio, Triple Addiction is a Southern rock band from Hillsborough, whose name comes from the founding triplets, members Jon, Brandon, and Chris Loree. Get it, Triple Addiction? The triplets have been playing music together since they could remember. Chris sings and plays lead guitar, Brandon play bass, and Jon plays the drums. They added rhythm guitarist Ben Pacaja to round out the band to give them a fuller sound, but they say that Ben “might as well be the fourth brother because we are super close.” Ben has been with the band since 2012. Triple Addiction has played all over Jersey from the Balloon Festival to small venues with their acoustic guitars, playing sometimes for three hours with a goal to just make people happier with their music.

Triple Addiction’s self-titled debut EP is out now on iTunes, Amazon Music, Google Play music, and wherever music is sold or downloaded. As of now, it looks like the boys have no shows coming up for the rest of the year, but I highly recommend that you keep an eye on these kids for 2017. If you like that hard rock with a Southern flare, you will love these guys. Check Triple Addiction out now at Facebook.com/TripleAddiction.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

My brothers from Negative Sky released their brand new music video for their song “The Dark Unknown” off of their brand new CD, Placid Black. The video and song are awesome! Drummer Tom Fitzgibbon’s drumming is thunderous and singer Dan Caputo is aggressive as ever. “The Dark Unknown” showcases why these cats are at the top of this local music scene. 2017 will be huge for the Negative Sky boys, so keep your eyes and ears peeled for them. You can catch Negative Sky live at Tusk in Philly on December 10, or at the end of December (12/28) with Clutch at the Starland Ballroom in Slayerville, NJ. For more info on the Negative ones, visit Facebook.com/NegativeskyNJ.

Speaking of new music videos, my bud Kenny Raftree and his band Raftree recently released a very cool and rockin’ video for their song “All The Time” off of their latest self-titled EP. The song really rocks and the video was beautifully shot. There have been some really great videos coming from all of these Jersey bands. It’s too bad there’s no more MTV or anything like it that shows videos anymore. For more on Raftree, visit RaftreeBand.com.

And finally, a few weeks ago, my band, Rahway got to share the stage at Bally’s in Atlantic City, NJ with some pretty great bands, but the one band that I’ve been wanting to check out for a while was New York City’s Dead Rocking Horse. Not only is singer Marron Chaplin a full-on hottie, but she can sing her ass off too! Oh, and she plays her ass off too on guitar! Anyway, Marron and the band did not let me down. They rocked the house! Unfortunately, neither of our bands won this fixed battle of the bands, but we did discover that our bands really enjoyed each other’s company and we hope to do some Rahway-Dead Rocking Horse shows in the near future. For more on Dead Rocking Horse, visit Facebook.com/DeadRockingHorse.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
