Christine Martucci: Doing It Her Way And Winning

The Stone Pony, March 19

SunsetsWest Records is proud to announce the release of Christine Martucci’s new album, Sin And Redemption. This is an important record for Martucci as it marks a significant parting with general comparisons to Janis Joplin or Melissa Etheridge. While she loves those influential divas, she’s moved past that general club and into her own throaty and dynamic direction. And it’s always awesome to be around just at the moment when an artist finally comes into his or her own. Sin And Redemption is Martucci’s moment. Mixing…

WILDSTREET—New York City

I recently received a friend request on Facebook from some dude named Ali Hassan. This dude, Ali, whom I thought was an old high school chum, had a Nikki Sixx look about him, and since I have this ongoing sick obsession with the charismatic Mötley Crüe bass player, I accepted Ali as a friend. I did some research before I accepted him, and as luck would have it, he was a bass player for a band out of New York City called Wildstreet. After seeing their band photo, my interest peaked even more because of the…

NATASHA KOMIS—North Bergen, NJ

My boy Smitty from Zenergy Entertainment recently told me about a rocking female singer that looked like Nikki Sixx. Wait! Hold the phone! There’s a chick that looks like Nikki Sixx, who can sing? I needed to see this! Her name is Natasha Komis, and she’s from North Bergen, NJ. I logged onto her band’s MySpace page, myspace.com/natashakomisband to hear a few tracks that weren’t bad at all. Her songs “Party of the Year,” “Shooting Star,” “Liar,” and “Come This Far” were anthemic, commercial-friendly and very reminiscent of early Joan Jett, which is kind of refreshing…

Christine Martucci stormed the Stone Pony with a bold new rock and roll image and her gang of ever-faithful fans dubbed the “Tucci Train” in attendance. While she still straps on an acoustic guitar for a few numbers, she’s putting down the axe more and more, letting the band handle the music while she concentrates on belting it out. CMB has morphed into a highly concentrated and stripped down rock and roll machine, which was definitely noticed by the audience at hand.

Usually in this section of my column I feature a music artist who performs on the North Jersey music scene. Now, when I say music scene, I don’t only mean the music artists that we see performing week in and week out. The music scene also consists of different components like the venues, the rehearsal studios, the recording studios, the managers, the entertainment lawyers, the web designers, the photographers, the mastering studios, the merchandise companies, and the CD/DVD duplication companies. You get the picture? It’s these components that make this New Jersey/NYC music scene one of the most competitive in…

Just when I thought that I ran out of bands to write about, I got an email from Mezzy of the band Warhorse. Apparently, Warhorse is a brand new metal band out of Rockaway, NJ, who recently made their debut at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, opening for Slapjaw and Fistacuffs. I had to give them a listen since I do like to give all new bands at least a chance and what I heard was simply bone crushing! It was old school metal riffs at their finest with singer Billy C. laying down some brutal vocals on songs like “Ghost…
