Shoreworld: The Cheryl Parascand Memorial Fund, Jody Joseph & Norman Seldin

The Cheryl Parascand Memorial Fund

Asbury Park is no stranger to losing friends and once again one of our own needs your help. Madison Marquette chef Paul Parascand lost his wife Cheryl in a Howell Twp. fire recently. The tragedy had brought the communities of Howell and Asbury Park together for a special event to raise money for the Parascand family. The event took place at the Stone Pony on May 13and featured the combined talents of Comedian Jeff Norris, Joe Harvard, Billy Walton and Jody Joseph and several others.

Everything happened fast so if you were unable to attend this show you can still help by making a donation to the fund listed below. Remember, anything you can do by drawing attention to this memorial fund via email, word of mouth, text, etc. will be greatly appreciated by Paul and his three young children. Give what you can. The fund is set up at Cheryl Parascand Memorial Fund, Ocean First Bank, 845 West Bay Ave., Gunning River Mall, Barnegat, NJ 08005. You can also contact Paul’s good friend Chef George at chefgeorgeband@comcast.net.

Live Nation Presents—Jody Joseph—“One Legend, One Diva, One Woman”—The Paramount Theater—Saturday, May 30

Jody Joseph is a name we’ve all come to know over the years, playing one of the many clubs in the area and generally working her own brand of Jersey Shore rock and roll magic to good effect. As a musician, she has an interesting background and gene pool history to boot. Her cousin is Jon BonJovi, and if that wasn’t enough she also has another show biz relative that was colorful and steeped in history—Mario Lanza. Lanza’s career took off when he was discovered by Louis B. Mayer and was signed to a seven-year film contract in 1947. Jody’s musical background courses with bonafide show biz blood and she has developed her rootsy/blues vibe into a style that has made her a household name on the Jersey shore.

Her upcoming show at the Paramount looks to be just as diverse as her background and it comes at us with an old time style of performance method. Her show will focus on the music and likeness of Janis Joplin as well as Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks. The reason I say old style is that not only will she be coming out to perform these two rock icon’s super hits, but she’ll be dressing the part of Janis and Stevie as well, becoming them in a matter of speaking, for two of the three-part show. Part impersonator, part visual performer, Jody intends to bring these singers new life in her own original way and end the night as herself, performing her own musical numbers as the “rock and roll daughter” combination of these two women.

It’s interesting to note that in 2006 Jody actually toured with Big Brother and the Holding Company and has an open invitation to join them again in the future as well, which gives credence to and ties into the idea for this double “legends” tribute performance.

There are rumors of several big name performers showing up to this Paramount show and my suggestion would be to come early and check it out as you never know who will “show at the shore.” The Paramount Theater is located at 1300 Ocean Avenue in Asbury Park. Tickets are available at livenation.com or charge by phone 1-877-598-8694.
