North Jersey Notes: Daredevil Squadron

DAREDEVIL SQUADRON-Brooklyn, NY

The Aquarian’s own Patrick Slevin recently turned me onto this band out of Brooklyn, NY. The name of the band is Daredevil Squadron, and I think they are awesome! They only had three songs posted on their MySpace page, “Forgotten Son,” “Black Lounge,” and “Out Of The Sun,” which are not on CD yet. In fact, the recordings on the MySpace page were a result of the band’s second rehearsal ever. The songs were very reminiscent of early ’80s metal ala Iron Maiden and AC/DC.

Daredevil Squadron is a new band from Brooklyn, NY, that combines flawless musicianship and incredible songwriting. If I’m not mistaken, after looking at the band members’ pictures, it seems that three of the five band members are members of the world famous Trans Siberian Orchestra which is how this band was formed. Making up the line-up for Daredevil Squadron is the unbelievable voice of Andrew Ross, guitarists Angus Clark and Aurelien Budynek, bassist Chris Altenhoff, and drummer Jason Gianni, who some might remember also as the drummer for the band Days Before Tomorrow with my bud Eric Klein on vocals. By the way, singer Andrew Ross, guitarist Angus Clark, and bassist Chris Altenhoff are the members from T.S.O.

Daredevil Squadron has its sites set on “rocking the world”; their words, not mine! They’ve already started their quest for world domination, so be on the lookout for Daredevil Squadron in your neck of the woods. NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

I just got email from Jeff Rafferty, singer/songwriter of the band Kindred Souls, and he told me that the band has a new CD coming out called Social Ninja. They plan on celebrating the CD’s release down at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ, on July 18. Jeff also told me that Kindred Souls has posted a video for their new song, “Whatchagonnado,” on YouTube and the band’s own site, kindred-souls.com. Check it out when you can or join Kindred Souls at their CD release party at The Saint on July 18.

My boy Anthony Sedotti, who was known for his incredible roadie work with band’s like Dropbox, Saint Caine, Piston Driven, and Split Vision, recently made his stage debut as a bass player with his new band The Dirty Stayouts down at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, a couple of weeks ago. Congrats to Anthony for joining the dark side! Check out The Dirty Stayouts at myspace.com/thedirtystayoutsnj.

And finally, in non-music related news, I wanted to mention that I stopped down at my bud Jerry Almazan’s Art Gallery opening in Jersey City, NJ, recently. Jerry was promoting a new artist named Marcus and Marcus’ work was simply amazing and so was the gallery. It was a New York City style gallery in the heart of downtown Jersey City. The name of the gallery is J.A. Project Gallery and it’s located on 341 Marin Boulevard. Jerry promises to promote new up-and-coming artists every month. I suggested that he showcase tattoo artists from around New Jersey, so look for that in the near future. The J.A. Project Gallery is open daily, so go down there and buy some art. If you’re a new artist and want your art showcased, contact Jerry through their website thejaprojectgallery.com.

That’s all for now! And remember, if your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your demos and press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424. No cover bands, please!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
