Inked Out: DaVinci Tattoo Studio: Wantagh, NY

Joining Frank Romano in his shop are some really talented artists as you can see in the pictures. There’s Chris Koutsis, whose been tattooing since 1996, but joined the Da Vinci Tattoo staff in 1998. Chris has built quite a loyal following for himself since joining Da Vinci because of excellent artwork. Chris is mainly a custom artist, as he prefers to accommodate the customer.

Kris Magnotti joined Da Vinci only four years ago, but he’s been tattooing for 11 years now, and like Frank, spent some time tattooing at a small shop in upstate New York. Kris prefers working on custom Japanese art, and by the way, he’s also the resident body piercer.

Then there’s Ray Alfano, who has also been tattooing for 11 years. Ray also does custom work in any style, but he’s available by appointment only from Wednesday through Friday. He will, however, accept walk-ins on Saturday and Sunday. Rounding out Frank’s group of artists are newcomers Dave Ball, Shaun Topper, and Justin “The Piercer.”

In 2005, due to the growing clientele and high demand of his artists, Frank had to relocate Da Vinci Tattoo to its current location. Today, the work is constant, as appointments keep coming in. By the way, appointments at Da Vinci Tattoo can only be made in person with a required $100 deposit for each appointment. Walk-ins are welcome depending on which artist is available or if you’re lucky because this shop is busy! So, they’ve set aside Saturdays and Sundays for “walk-ins only.” There are age limitations like all shops. You need to be 18 with a legal ID to get tattooed or pierced. These guys seemed to be no joke, so I wouldn’t try to pull a fast one on them. As for their prices, they’re pretty comparable to most shops that I’ve visited in New Jersey and New York. They charge by the size and difficulty of the artwork, which makes it only fair to the client. Since there is a $100 deposit required, you’d be off to a $100 head start!

I have to say this is one of the cleanest shops that I’ve been to. They sterilize everything from needles to machines to the toilet in the bathroom. If I had the cash, I probably would’ve gotten some work done right there! Unfortunately for me, I was being called in to do a sound check next door at Mulcahy’s, so I had to head out, but if I knew someone looking to get some ink done out in Long Island, I would highly recommend Da Vinci Tattoo, located at 3247 Sunrise Highway in Wantagh, NY. If you wish to contact them with any questions, you can call them at (516) 781-5030 or email them at davincitattoo@gmail.com.
