North Jersey Notes: Doubledge, Luke and Marc Rizzo, Ashes Of Your Enemy & *SOULFLY (!?)

DOUBLEDGE—Bronx, NY

I found a great hard rock band on reverbnation.com recently. Only they’re not from North Jersey. They’re from da Bronx! The name of the band is Doubledge and they rock… Really hard! I was blown away and wasn’t expecting what I heard when I clicked on the title track off their full-length CD, “Breakthrough.” I had to hear more so I listened to the next few songs, “Who We Are,” “Meaning to Life,” and two mellow tracks, “Hunger” and “In Your Eyes,” which really give you an idea how good singer Efrain Goyco really is. The music hits you where it hurts, unusual for a Christian rock band. Yes, I said a Christian rock band.

Doubledge members began their careers a church. As they matured into talented musicians, they added their unique and distinct flavor to their music. The band’s lyrics and music forms an inspirational message of hope meant to touch and change the lives of everyone who hears their songs. Doubledge is singer Efran Goyco, guitarist Jason Cruz and keyboardist Manny Ferrer.

Recently, the band has been fortunate enough to play at some world-renowned venues like the Hard Rock Café in NYC. They’ve spent much of 2010 on the road promoting their debut full-length CD, which can be purchased on iTunes or the band’s website, doubledgerock.com. Allowing themselves to be open and passionate about their faith, Doubledge has produced a memorable impression on almost everyone they meet. Personally, I like them for their music!

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

My bro, Luke “DJ Cloak Dagger” Rizzo, recently IMed me to let me know that he recently released his collaboration with his real brother and Soulfly guitar wiz, Marc Rizzo on iTunes and Amazon.com. The name of the song is “Argila” and it features an acoustic performance from Marc. This is obviously a must-listen!

Speaking of Marc, I heard a rumor, and this might be breaking news, but I heard that there might be a surprise Soulfly performance at Mexicali Live in Teaneck, NJ sometime in December. Yes, I said Soulfly! Keep your eyes peeled for ticket info coming soon! For more info on Marc Rizzo, log onto myspace.com/marcrizzo.

My boy Shottie and his band Ashes of Your Enemy have some new music up on their myspace, myspace.com/ashesof yourenemy. Now, I’m not sure how long these tracks have been posted, but the boys had planned to release a 4-song EP anyway, which features “Heartless Divine,” “Black Out the Sun,” “Face the Flood, and “Hate Anthem.” These new Ashes of Your Enemy songs also are the first with new lead guitarist, Tom McNamara. Check them out at myspace.com/ashesofyourenemy.

And finally, my bros, Brett Aveni and Ron “Q*Ball” Scalzo from the band Return to Earth, which features Chris Pennie of Coheed and Cambria, recently released their first music video for the song “Automata” off of their Metal Blade released CD of the same title. The video is very artistic and the song sounded like it was little but more on the industrial end, ala Nine Inch Nails. Very nice, guys! Check it out at myspace.com/returntoearththeband.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at chigger273@aol.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next. No cover bands, please! Also, check out my book, S**T Happens, available on Amazon.com now!

Just remember….We is all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
