North Jersey Notes: Sanitarius, Dancing Goats, Voodoo Terror Tribe and More!

SANITARIUS—Staten Island, NY

I was recently contacted about a great metal band out of Staten Island, NY, called Sanitarius. After listening to a few of their songs, I love these guys! Sanitarius take it old school with their brand of metal. Their sound on songs like “Paradigm,” “Eyes To The Soul” and “Shell Shock” was reminiscent of old Metallica when it came to the doubled leads, but vocally reminded me of old Anthrax meets Testament. Personally, I love it and feel that this is heavy metal done right!

Sanitarius was formed in 2002. Their sound is often described as a fusion of thrash and neo-classical metal. The thunderous feet of drummer Dave Cordero and the bottom end, which is held down by bassist Stewart Ustick, has helped Sanitarius develop a solid rhythm section. What gives Sanitarius its unique but powerful punch is the dual guitar work of Robbie Padovano and Rob Quartararo, who also handles the lead vocal duties. Constantly in writing mode, Sanitarius has no plans on letting up anytime soon.

Sanitarius released their debut EP, Eyes To The Soul, back in February of 2007. The CD was produced by BioHazard and Suicide City’s Billy Graziadei, and immediately garnered the band much attention in the Tri-State area. From what I hear, Sanitarius puts on an amazing live show. You’ll be able to witness it at Gramercy Theatre in NYC when they open for Sanctuary on Jan. 11. For more info on these guys, log onto reverbnation.com/sanitarius.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

The blues jam band Dancing Goats is hosting and performing a benefit concert at the Mercury Lounge in NYC this Friday night (Dec. 23) to help support local food banks in the New York City area. They’re calling the event “Occupy Hunger for the Holidays.” Also performing is Mother Zeta. The show starts at 7 p.m. and all proceeds from the ticket sales will be donated to the food bank organization foodbanknyc.org. For more info, log onto dancinggoatsband.com.

My bros from Voodoo Terror Tribe, with whom I just performed at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, recently released the title track from their brand new EP, Stands To Reason, and I can’t get enough of the damn song! Singer Gil Pz really shines as an amazing singer in the North Jersey scene on the track, and guitarist Emir Erkal swore that there’s already a video in the works for the song. Check the song out now at vttrocks.com.

And finally, in some pretty cool news about some old band members of mine, it turns out my old drummer from Smoke Star, Chris Manfre, and my old guitarist from Mean Venus and Sik Twisted Smile, Marcelo Cardosa, have teamed up with former Ghetto singer Dan Gomez and bassist Roy Brunston, who is secretly my new B.F.F., to form a brand new project. The band is so new that they don’t even have a name yet! Roy sent me a few rehearsal recordings, and I am more than super-excited about these guys! Singer Dan Gomez almost has this Chris Cornell feel to him. I wish I would’ve stolen him as a singer way back when we were looking for one in Smoke Star. Anyway, keep an eye out for these guys! I’ll get you a name as soon as they have one.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next! Anyway, have a safe and Merry Christmas!

Just remember: We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
