Hey Now, Morris Fader: Good Times Ne’er Forgot

Central Massachusetts rock group Hey Now, Morris Fader spent two long years writing, recording, and perfecting their sound. Their new album, Good Times Ne’er Forgot, turned out to be quite the challenge. Singer/keyboardist Brooks Milgate and drummer Alex Sacco never even thought this band would take off. It began as a side-project some years ago, and it quickly took flight. The duo wrote melodic pop songs and collaborated well. They added long-time colleague, Justin “Pez” Day on bass, and their band was finally complete. Their piano-based indie rock jams are full of life and energy.

“Gone For Good” is the standout track of this third studio release. The heartfelt lyrics, a theme on this record, are extremely relatable. Milgate sings, “You just twist your words until they’re true/ You just lie to you.” The piano bursts to life, making your head bob and your foot tap. The subtle strings loom in the background, adding a touch of sophistication to this bluesy indie rock group.

The seventh song, “Not For You Anymore” is a big band rock party. The blaring trumpet is in your face while Sacco bangs away on his drums as if his life depended on it. The catchy chorus and beat draw you in and make you want to dance along. Even though the next track is slower, the momentum isn’t slowed by any means.

Staying true to their sound the whole way through this record, in spite of member changes and three separate mastering jobs is difficult to accomplish, but these guys do it well. Whether it’s the guitar solo in “The Blues And Alcohol,” or the beautiful piano in “Two Weeks Notice,” this group can do it all. Hey Now, Morris Fader will delight fans with this compilation of great rock tunes.
