North Jersey Notes: Decypher, Kore Rozzik, Julius Seizure and More!

One of my new buds, Donn Parent, has been playing drums with a cool hard rock band out of Staten Island called Decypher. How do I know they’re cool? Because I shared the stage with them back in January down in Atlantic City. Donn is originally from the same area that my band BlackOcean is from, but has transplanted himself into my old neck of the woods of New York City. The group is not bad at all. They’re full of great riffs, killer vocals and, of course, thunderous drums supplied by Donn Parent himself. The songs “Father,” “Walk Away” and “One Last Day” showcase what Decypher are made of.

Decypher was put together by three childhood friends in singer and guitarist Mike D’Ambra, guitarist Tim Anastasio, and bassist Leo Sabatino from Staten Island back in 2006. After about six years of a drummer revolving door, Donn Parent answered an ad on Craigslist in June of 2012 and the band has been on the go ever since, playing any show offered to them and writing their tails off about life and everything that goes with it.

In April, Decypher released their debut self-titled EP, which features the aforementioned songs. The EP has garnered the band some airplay in the UK and the boys hope that their across the pond success will bleed over here into the U.S. This Saturday night (7/27), Decypher rocks against Dystrophy with a gig at Crossroads in Garwood, NJ, hosted by my bro, Tattoo Tony, and also features acts like Beyond Visible, InDisguise, Devilhaus and A Need For Reason. Get your asses out there for a good cause and to see some great music! For more on Decypher, log onto reverbnation.com/decyphernyc.

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

My new bud, Kore Rozzik, recently released his new single “Raindrops And Broken Glass” from his upcoming EP, Have A Taste. The song isn’t bad at all. It’s got some balls to it. Some parts sound a little dated, but all around, it’s a good rock song. You can listen to the track at soundcloud.com/korerozzik/kore-rozzik-raindrops-and-1. Check out Kore Rozzik at facebook.com/KoreRozzikNYC.

The boys from Julius Seizure are looking to end the summer on a high note! They will be releasing their upcoming opus, Trials, with a CD release party at Dingbatz in Clifton on Aug. 24 with my boys from Seas Of Wake, Toothgrinder and Gyre supporting the cause. Keep up to date on all things Julius Seizure at facebook.com/juliusseizureband.

And finally, a few weeks ago I mentioned that my bro Joe Cattano and his Aarius Studios in Old Bridge, NJ, has taken quite a hit since Superstorm Sandy and might have to close its doors because of it. Well, Aarius will be hosting a benefit show to save their studio on Aug. 2and 3 at the Bayshore Bar And Grill at the Hazlet Holiday Inn’s Banquet Hall. It will be two days filled with music from bands that rehearse at the studio. For more info on the event, contact the studio at facebook.com/aariusstudios.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!
