Marian Hill: Jazz Meets Electronica

Marian Hill, hailing from Philadelphia, is a duo comprised of Samantha Gongol (songwriting, vocals) and Jeremy Lloyd (production/songwriting). The pair met at a young age, went to different colleges to study music but then came together to create Marian Hill. The duo became the talk of the Internet seemingly overnight, after Lloyd blindly sent their first song “Whisky” to different music blogs. They were later signed with Photo Finish/Republic Records. Their EP, Sway, is out now, and includes the song “One Time,” which showcases a lush jazz saxophone lick. Their sound is unlike any you are likely to recognize; it is stylistically a mix between 1920s’ jazz and electronica. Gongol’s voice is so sensual and smooth, which pairs perfectly with Lloyd’s electronic beats. The pair will be headlining a performance at Bowery Ballroom on Sept. 29. You can also watch them perform on Oct. 1 at Union Transfer in Philadelphia, PA.
