One Hundred Thousand: Rising Up

The word that comes to mind when listening to Rise, the new EP from North Jersey’s One Hundred Thousand, is “drive.” Every component of the hard rock quartet’s sound, from Rich Matos’ searing vocal parts to drummer Kurt Wubbenhorst’s intricate sense of rhythm, fuels each of their performances with a sense of forward motion. Despite the overall tightness of their latest release, fans of One Hundred Thousand will be the first to point out that it’s all about their live show. A real indication of One Hundred Thousand’s energy and, again, drive, comes through best during their live performances. Indeed, Rise is stacked to the brim with pressing hooks as well as a strong sense of synchronicity that is always best experienced in a live setting. Check them out at Arlene’s Grocery in New York on Dec. 9.
