Maria’s Local Radar: Manny Cabo

Can you believe how much this year is flying? I feel like just yesterday I was saying Happy New Year to you all. Well, at least I can say I have seen a lot of bands this year, heard a lot of new music I like, and have gotten to know many of you much better in these past few months. Time flies my friends, as they say. On that note, let’s do what we do best: chat music.

I have been hearing a lot of chatter from my friends at Jersey Rock, as well as an email I received in my inbox, about an artist named Manny Cabo and some great tunes he has been working on. You may or may not be familiar with Manny, but I will catch you up to speed this week, and let you know what to look out for. Ready, set, go!

When I first saw the name, I immediately recognized Elizabeth, New Jersey’s Manny Cabo from Season 9 of The Voice, and remember how talented his blind audition was. I knew upon that moment that I had to dig deeper into his recordings, because I already knew I loved his live style. He auditioned with “Here I Go Again,” and it gave all of the judges the chills. Although he may have been eliminated from the competition, that doesn’t matter; the exposure it gave him and the platform it put him on has really put a boost in his career. He owned that stage; even if he does have a sense of stage fright, no one would ever know. This is what Manny was meant to do on this earth: perform music.  He has undeniable talent with a very unique sound, and I really see Manny going places. I was glad he was on Team Adam, as I feel he gave him the best rock advice he could get. So, what is his sound like? Well, it’s a perfect blend of “power pop, rock and Southern rock,” hitting each genre with the perfect amount.

The first original track of Manny’s that I dug deep into is called “90 Proof,” and let me tell you, it’s as strong as it sounds. His vocals are impeccable, to say the least. It’s amazing how one man and one voice can put you in a mood that makes you want to completely rock out, then on the next track completely relax and get in your zone. I highly recommend you check out this tune if you want to hear his vocal range, because you will swoon.

If I had to pick a song for you to start out with and get “introduced” to Manny’s sound, it would be “So Close To You.” I think this one spotlights his talents and capabilities perfectly, but the lyrics are amazing and personal.

Another track from Manny that I highly recommend you check out is called “Friday Night,” which can also be found on his EP, Stratospheric, available now for purchase. This may be my favorite song of his. It’s crazy to think Stratospheric has only been out for a short amount of time and it already has so much traction on local radio stations, spotlights, and more. Everyone seems to really be digging this work, and rightfully so. If you check out his official website at mannycabomusic.com, he also has some oldies but goodies on there. If you compare tracks, it’s amazing to see how much he has grown and matured in style and sound, captivating fan bases of all different types of genres.

Manny has an upcoming show at The Bitter End in New York City on Saturday, April 2, and I am going to do my best to get my butt out there. When your live performance is just as good as your recordings, I think it’s safe to say you are in good shape!
