North Jersey Notes: Sinertia, Killcode, Negative Sky and More!

After doing some research online for a band to feature this week, I came across a band called Sinertia out of Boonton, NJ. I found them when I took a look at my bud Michael Camp’s Campfire Productions past events. So, I decided to give them a listen on their website, where I got to hear a few songs like “Ruin,” “Give In,” “Durado,” and “Lying Awake.” I felt musically the band was almost there, but not sure how I felt about the vocals. Although I didn’t feel singer Dave Schlett’s voice was horrible, I didn’t feel it was up to par with the music. If these guys want to compete with the competitive nature of this North Jersey music scene, they’re going to have to step up their game because they have some catching up to do.

According to their bio, Sinertia formed in 2012, using their influences of bands like Metallica, Stone Sour, Five Finger Death Punch and Disturbed to create heavy groove-based riffs with catchy choruses. Sinertia has aimed to create music that is appealing to fans of hard rock and metal. Joining singer Dave Schlett in Sinertia are guitarists Vin Wolff and James O’Connor, bassist Mike Jamgotchian, and drummer Brian Peterson.

Sinertia recently released their EP, Casting Shadows, which features the songs that I mentioned earlier. As I said, the songs aren’t bad. I did feel, however, that these songs were songs from a band just starting out, but Sinertia has been around since 2012. I would have expected something stronger. Maybe a better producer to give them some direction vocally? There was just no sense of melody in the vocals. But hey, who am I? It’s just my opinion and my review of the band’s music. Sinertia deserves the credit for delivering their own music, but if they want to compete on this music scene, they’ll need to step up their game. The band is currently performing local shows to promote Casting Shadows. Maybe there live show is much better? NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

I know that I just mentioned these guys a couple of weeks ago, but my bros from Killcode have just announced a killer show at the Marlin Room at Webster Hall in NYC on May 25. They will be co-headlining with my buds the Sassaris brothers – Taki and Alex, and their band Eve To Adam with the boys from Awaken The Shadow opening. This is a show that really packs a punch! If you want to feel that New York Groove, this is the show to be at. Speaking of that New York Groove, you can catch Killcode live this week opening for Rock And Roll Hall Of Famer and KISS legend Ace Frehley in New York and Pennsylvania. Check the concert calendar below for dates. For more on Killcode, visit Killcode.net.

Speaking of cool gigs, my bros from Negative Sky landed an awesome gig opening for Jamey Jasta’s Hatebreed at the Starland Ballroom in Slayerville, NJ on June 4. Also on the bill are Devildriver, Devil You Know featuring Howard Jones formerly of Killswitch Engage, my brothers from Ashes Of Your Enemy and Scars Of Envy. Um, wow! Negative Sky is putting the finishing touches on their highly-anticipated debut EP. For more on the Negative ones, visit Facebook.com/NegativeSkyNJ.

And finally, one killer show you won’t want to miss this weekend will be taking place in Hoboken, NJ on Saturday night at Maxwell’s Tavern featuring my boys from Brand Of Julez, New Day Dawn, Corevalay and Empire Fallen. The Brand Of Julez boys are hot off the heels of their visit to Texas during South by Southwest and it looks like they’ve brought a bit of Texas home with them, landing a gig opening for Sons Of Texas at Webster Hall in NYC on May 10. For more on Brand Of Julez, visit Facebook.com/BrandofJulez.
