Rockabye Baby!: Lullaby Renditions Of The White Stripes

Rockabye Baby is a company that recreates rock bands and their music to lullaby form. Lullaby Renditions Of The White Stripes takes 12 hit songs from the rock duo consisting of Meg and Jack White, and transforms it into a baby-friendly version. The opening track, “Fell In Love With A Girl,” takes the upbeat original and brings it down to a calming pace. Where Jack White’s vocals used to lay are now surrounded by the combination of xylophone and glockenspiel. This is seen throughout the album, as the xylophone takes the vocal pattern in “Blue Orchid” and the glockenspiel and other instruments fill the area where the drums and guitar used to be. Vocals on “My Doorbell” are replaced with mallet instruments while bells and other percussion take the turn of the piano and drums.

One of my favorite White Stripes songs, “You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told),” is done perfectly in lullaby form. With the different pit percussion, trinkets and mallet instruments used, the transition loses no flow and the song still rocks; well, as much as it could in lullaby form. Another wonderful transformation is that of the band’s “We’re Going To Be Friends.” Consisting of xylophones, bells, blocks, glockenspiels, pit percussion, mallet instruments and more, Rockabye Baby! make a “best of” compilation of 12 White Stripes songs. Performed and produced by Steven Charles Boone, each and every track has the same feel and pattern of the original with a slight twist. This is a great listen for any White Stripes fan who wants to breathe new light into an old favorite, or to share your love with a younger audience.
