North Jersey Notes: Split Your Lip

The last time that I was down at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, my bud Vito Feleccia wanted me to give his new band a listen. Many of you who frequent Dingo’s Den and Dingbatz know Vito as a Dingbatz staple, and to me, a fellow Crüehead. Anyway, Vito is now playing guitar for a band out of East Rutherford, NJ, called Split Your Lip, and they’re not bad at all! Split Your Lip is made up of the residual members of local bands One Lump Sum, Object 7, Aircraft, and Stillborn Monster Babies (The Misfits Tribute).

Split Your Lip is raw hard rock with a sense and sound of the old school Van Houten Avenue Connections days, as they like to call it. Their songwriting doesn’t allow them to be categorized into any set genre. They will settle for just “good” music. Singer and bassist Alfonso Offreda and singer and guitarist Greg Clauberg’s chemistry and writing are really strong on songs like “Thoughts And Emotions” and “Mother Mercy” off of their new EP simply titled The EP. Drummer Mina Naguib displays the backbone and the backbeat to these hooky tracks. Rounding out Split Your Lip is the newest member of the band and my bud, Vito Fileccia. Vito has proven to be an excellent addition.

Split Your Lip is looking to end 2009 on a roll as they plan on playing as many venues as possible in the NJ and NYC area. They’ve recently received airplay on WDHA’s “Homegrown Spotlight.” Catch Split Your Lip live tonight, Oct. 21, down at The Harvest Moon in New Brunswick, NJ. NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

I just received an email from Paul and Linda from Ippy And The Project. It’s been awhile, I haven’t heard from them since baby Paulie was born. Paul says that having a baby has been an adjustment, but he and Linda are still writing new material when they can. Paul assured that a new Ippy And The Project CD is in the process. He also wanted to thank all the well-wishers to baby Paulie. For more info on Ippy And The Project, log onto myspace.com/ippyandtheproject.

I just read that there’s a new venue on the North Jersey scene. It’s called The Washington Theater in Washington, NJ, and they’re looking for acts and bands of all sorts. If you would like to learn more about the venue or want to book your band there, log onto myspace.com/thewashingtontheatre.

And finally, my bros from Bled For Glory have posted a few new live songs on their MySpace page, myspace.com/bledforglory. They’ve posted live versions of their new songs “Pick Your Poison” and “Road To Acceptance” and their classic song “42.” Catch Bled For Glory live this Friday night, Oct. 23, at the Axis Lounge in Carlstadt, NJ. Again, if you want to give Bled For Glory a listen first, log onto myspace.com/bledforglory.

That’s all for now! And remember, if your band is from North Jersey and you want some exposure, send your demos and press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140 Little Falls, NJ 0742. No cover bands, please!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
