Amy Ray: Not Just An Indigo Girl

Trading in her warming voice harmonies and acoustic guitar for loud powerful vocals and an electric guitar, Amy Ray has made herself known as solo artist instead of the other half of the Indigo Girls. From fast raunchy punk rock songs to a ‘60s doo-wop sound, Ray jumps genres and never forgets to add in her strong reflections on political and gender issues. Toning down her sound with her new album, Didn’t It Feel Kinder, Ray strays away from her recognizable voice and adds in some soul, giving it a Motown feel. She will be playing the Mercury Lounge in NYC on Aug. 20 and the Bell House in Brooklyn on Aug 21. amy-ray.com.
