North Jersey Notes: Judge The Fallen, Mikell’s Plot, Rhythm Trip and More!

JUDGE THE FALLEN—Union, NJ

For some reason, I was getting hit up all over the place about this week’s feature band, Judge The Fallen. First, guitarist Joe Vidal from Disaster Fantastic contacted me on Facebook to check out his new project, and then my bass brother, Dan Grossberg, from Dead Letter Box and Bled For Glory, reached out to me on Twitter. It turns out Dan went to high school with Joe and drummer Ed Siana, and they decided to put this music project together called Judge The Fallen.

After Disaster Fantastic went through some personnel changes that they couldn’t recover from, they decided to put something new together, which included their friend Dan Grossberg on bass. They rounded out their new band with singer Mike Morgan and Judge The Fallen was born. This hard rock quartet spent most of 2011 writing new music, and from what I’ve heard so far, they will turn into a force on the New Jersey music scene.

I was able to hear two songs off of the band’s Facebook page. Both “Solemn” and “A Saint for Sorrow” just blew me away! They had this Alice in Chains Sap-vibe. Singer Mike Morgan’s vocals were simply amazing, but the harmonies were even better! It seems that Judge The Fallen is still a work in progress, but if this is their progress, their future on the scene is going to be a pretty interesting one. Keep an ear out for Judge The Fallen!

NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

I recently received an email from some old friends, Mikell’s Plot, whom I met back when I was still playing with Smoke Star. I haven’t heard from these guys in a while, but it sounds like they’re getting back on the horse. Mikell’s Plot will be heading to Peru sometime in February for a handful of dates, and they recently finished up recording their latest CD, which includes an updated version of their song “Monster On My Wall,” “Goldenwolf Goddess” and a 9/11 Tribute called “I Remember.” Keep an eye out for Mikell’s Plot in 2012 by following them on their MySpace page at myspace.com/mikellsplot.

Self-marketing guru Dave Incognito recently reached out to me on Facebook to let me know that his new band InDisguise will be performing with Pyramada, at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ, this Friday night (Nov. 25) for Pyramada’s CD Release Party. Dave also told me that InDisguise will be releasing their next single, “In Your Face,” sometime this month. Follow InDisguise now on Facebook at facebook.com/InDisguiseBand or catch them live this Friday night at Dingbatz.

And finally, I just got off of the phone with Murder League All-Stars head honcho, Tim McMurtrie, and he informed me of some pretty amazing news! It turns out Timmy’s reuniting his old band, Rhythm Trip, after 20 years. For you youngsters, Rhythm Trip was one of the most popular hip-hop metal bands to come out of the North Jersey area and was the brainchild of Tim McMurtrie, who was the original guitarist of hardcore legends M.O.D. Timmy will be reuniting his crew for a one-off show at Dingbatz on Dec. 9 for his Tripsquad Productionz annual Season’s Beatings show. Also performing will be Sic Flux, Mindswitch, Lionel Pryor and Purveyor. For more info on Rhythm Trip, log onto myspace.com/rhythmtrip.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!
Just remember: We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
