North Jersey Notes: Patent Pending, Sekond Skyn, Brand Of Julez and More!

Since I started working in the concert business, I’ve come across some pretty cool characters; one of them being Rob Felicetti from the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, PA. Rob kept telling me about his band Patent Pending, whom I remember writing about many years ago, but it’s been so long, I don’t even remember what I wrote about them. Anyway, Rob’s band Patent Pending has a new CD called Riot Hearts Rebellion dropping this Friday (11/27) and the band will be performing a slew of shows in the area this December with a stop at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ on Dec. 16 after the band returns from a tour in the U.K.

Patent Pending is a pop-punk band, who started out in Mount Sinai, NY back in 2001 and currently consists of singer Joe Ragosta, guitarists Marc Kantor and my bud Rob Felicetti, bassist Corey DeVincenzo, and drummer Anthony Mingoia. The band self-produced and self-released various EPs before releasing their debut CD, Save Each Other, The Whales Are Doing Fine, in 2006 with the band’s original members, singer Michael Ragosta and bassist Drew Buffardi. In 2009, Patent Pending would release an EP called Attack Of The Awesome!!! with current singer and then guitarist Joe Ragosta and Michael Ragosta sharing lead vocals and Jay Beiner taking on the bass duties. Michael left the band shortly after the EP was released and Joe took the singing job on full-time and long-time collaborating songwriter with the band, guitarist Joshua Dicker, would perform some live shows with the group until former drummer from The Ataris, Rob Felicetti, replaced Dicker on guitar as a touring replacement before joining the band full-time in 2010, where they released their EP, I’m Not Alone. In 2011, they released their second CD, Second Family, which gave the band an opportunity to perform their single “Dance Til We Die” live at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

I gave the band’s latest single from Riot Hearts Rebellion, “NSFW (.) (.),” a listen, and the band still sounds as fun as I remembered them. So, I can’t wait to hear more from this record when it drops this weekend. If you to catch a fun live band who kicks ass, check Patent Pending out when they hit Dingbatz in Clifton on Dec. 16. You can also catch them at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, PA on Dec. 19 or at Revolution Music Hall in Amityville, NY the day after Christmas. NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

My bros from Sekond Skyn and Brand Of Julez will be opening for Pop Evil and my new favorite band Red Sun Rising at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ on Dec. 16 as part of WDHA’s “Naughty Or Nice Ball.” This has lined up to be an amazing show! So, grab your discounted tickets from the boys in Sekond Skyn at facebook.com/SekondSkynMusic or the boys from Brand Of Julez at www.brandofjulez.bigcartel.com. Support the locals before you buy these tickets at the door!

My bro Steve Bello just put the finishing touches on his latest CD, which he performed every instrument on. Steve broke the Steve Bello Band up back in August and chose to do everything himself. I’m not sure how he will pull this off live, but I guess we’ll see. Anyway, he began the drum programs back in August and finished up with his guitar solos right before Halloween. Steve is calling this project “definitely his most ambitious and challenging prog-metal-funk to date!” He’s also withholding the CD’s title until everything is mixed, mastered and artwork is done. I guess we’ll just have to wait for some new Steve Bello. For more info on Steve Bello, visit Facebook.com/StevieHimself.

And finally, a couple of weeks ago my band Rahway had to cancel a couple of cool shows—one with our buds from Saint Caine at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ. Unfortunately, the cancellations were beyond our control. Our drummer, Steve Cardenas, had been missing for days when his brother and Rahway guitarist, Dave Cardenas, found him laid up in a hospital bed. Turned out, Steve had lost his brakes in his van and smashed into a concrete divider to avoid anything that was living and a gas station. He broke both of his legs, but is expected to make a full recovery. Looks like Rahway will be out of the game for a few months, but keep your eyes peeled for our brand new music video for the song “Yesterday” from the band’s new EP Grand Design. For more on Rahway and to send Steve some love, visit Facebook.com/Rahway.

That’s all for now! If your band is from North Jersey, and you want some exposure, send your press kits to Arts Weekly, c/o Tim Louie P.O. Box 1140, Little Falls, NJ 07424, or you can email me at tim@theaquarian.com, where you can also let me know where you’re performing next!

Just remember….We’re all in the same boat, so every little bit of exposure counts!
