North Jersey Notes: Burial Mound, Killcode, Steve Bello and More!

As I searched for a band to feature this week, my old pal Bob Kimbrough, better known to me as “Freak,” recommended a band that is actually from my neck of the woods. The name of the band is Burial Mound and they’re from down here in Atco, NJ. I say down here because I am from down here in South Jersey these days, but the good news is, Freak mentioned Burial Mound to me because they’ve played Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ a bunch of times and Freak is the soundman there. I decided to give them a listen and these guys are loud and brutal. After listening to songs like “Forbidden,” “Secrets Never Lie” and “Blood Bound,” I couldn’t help thinking, “How the hell does singer Mike Germano speak after singing a whole set like that?”

Burial Mound was formed back in 2012 and released their first EP, With Honor, a year later, making a name for themselves on the Jersey music scene. Burial Mound solidified their lineup by 2014 and soon created a more unique and developed sound that was a bit more aggressive with a melody. With a new album on the looming and a new mindset, Burial Mound has quickly become undeniably a band worth keeping an eye out for in 2016. The band is currently made up of singer Mike Germano, guitarists Joe Germano and Nick Ursomarso, bassist Dan Gunning, and drummer Rob Gladden.

Burial Mound was created with the sole purpose of making loud, neck-breaking heavy metal. The band is set to drop their debut CD, Relics Of A New Age, sometime in 2016. The CD was tracked at Conclave Studios in NYC and produced by God Forbid drummer Corey Pierce. Burial Mound is still a young band, but their futures looks bright on this booming metal scene. NORTH JERSEY NOTES UPDATES:

My bros from Killcode recently released a brand new song called “The Answer,” which is the third song off of their new upcoming CD that they shared on the internet. My brother and Killcode singer Tom Morrissey says, “We just finished tracking our new CD which was produced by Joey Z from Life Of Agony and we’re now in the mixing stages for the CD.” Look for the new Killcode CD within the next few months. If these three songs that they released early are any indication of what the CD will sound like, all I can say is, “Wow!” Find out what Killcode is “Talkin’ ‘bout!” with “The Answer” by listening to it at Reverbnation.com/killcode. For more on Killcode, visit Killcode.net.

Speaking of my bros, guitar wiz Steve Bello finally released his new solo CD, Layers Of Time, a couple of weeks ago. The CD is currently available by download only. Steve also released the first single off of the CD, “Postcards From Mars,” which he made available through his website, SteveBelloRocks.com. Steve said, “I played all the guitars and bass, as well as drum programs on this CD.” Who needs a vocalist when you can make your guitar sing the way he does? And finally, speaking of guitar wizzes, my bro Angel Vivaldi is fresh off of his successful Touring You Apart tour and is already planning his touring schedule for this spring. In the meantime, he’s been hard at work putting the finishing touches on his cover of Joe Satriani’s “Crystal Planet” featuring As Blood Runs Black’s Dan Sugarman. Angel has even released a video for this amazing cover. Check it out at youtu.be/2zYDMN4h2hY. Angel’s latest opus, Away With Words Part 1, is out now wherever CDs are sold.
