Brooklyn Refugee

—by , July 19, 2009

Rebecca Fanya, an acclaimed musician and backup vocalist, follows in the noble footsteps of music’s greatest sidekicks. After doing time in the trenches alongside contemporaries like Peter Gabriel, Youssou N’Dour, and Norah Jones, she’s finally releasing her eponymous debut, with a party at Joe’s Pub in Brooklyn on July 20. After taking a listen to her new record, keep an eye out for her humanitarian work, which focuses on efforts to combat HIV in the developing world, as well as work with underprivileged kids right here in New York City.
